Bee on Echinacea Flower

Am finding my trusty 50-200mm f/2 lens to be very good at macro photography, even though that’s not what it is really designed to do. As proof, here are a couple of pics I shot today of a bee on an Echinacea flower:

Insects on Purple Flowers

Went for another walk in Woodbine Park, and saw that a lot of purple flowers (a type of purple daisy?) was attracting all sorts of pollinating insects.

Caught a nice shot of a Monarch Butterfly sipping nectar from a purple flower. Along with the details of the butterfly I also love the bokeh on this one:

And here’s another of a bee on the same type of flower:

Honeybee Close-up

Saw a honeybee buzzing around some flowers, and even though I didn’t have my macro lens on my camera, I thought I would give things a tree with my f2 200mm telephoto from about a meter-and-half away to see what I could get.

It turned out much better than I expected, and here’s the best pic from the lot I shot:

Honeybee on a Coneflower

Was invited over to Dave and Charmaine’s for dinner last night, and I made a point of going to Charmaine’s well-stocked garden to take photos before the light disappeared completely.

To make a long story short, there were honeybees having a good time sucking nectar out of the many coneflowers (also known as Echinacea) so I got out the macro lens and started patiently taking pics. Those below are culled from about +130 I shot.

On this one you can see the three mini-eyes set between the two big compound eyes on either side.
